Impersonating a Faculty Member in Scholarly

Updated over 3 months ago

Administrators can impersonate faculty members in order to troubleshoot issues, preview the platform from a faculty perspective, or assist with tasks on their behalf.

⚠️ Note: Impersonation should only be used for support and troubleshooting. Actions you take while impersonating will be recorded as if the faculty member performed them.

Who Can Impersonate Faculty

  • Institutional Administrators – can impersonate any faculty member in the institution.

  • Department Administrators – can impersonate only faculty members within their department(s).

How to Impersonate a Faculty Member

  1. Open the Faculty Profile

    • You can do this by navigating through the Faculty Directory or by typing the faculty member’s name in the global Search Bar.

  2. Confirm You’re on the Administrative Profile

    • Faculty profiles have two views:

      • Administrative Profile – available only to administrators (default view).

      • Scholarly Profile – the public-facing or faculty-facing view.

    • Ensure you are on the Administrative Profile before proceeding.

  3. Start Impersonation

    • From the Administrative Profile, click Settings in the top-right corner.

    • Select Act as [Faculty Member].

  4. Browse as the Faculty Member

    • Once impersonation begins, the top-right corner (where you normally see your own name) will display: “Acting as [Faculty Member]”.

    • You can now navigate the platform exactly as the faculty member would see it.

  5. End Impersonation

    • To stop impersonating, click “Acting as [Faculty Member]” in the top-right corner.

    • Select Stop acting as [Faculty Member] to return to your own administrator view.
